TiniFiber is making pre-terminated MPO (multi-fiber push on) cable assemblies from its’ Micro Armor’ optical fibre cable.

The cable “assemblies are tested and verified to meet standards including IEC 61754-7 and EIA/TIA-604-5 (FOCIS 5), which specify a connector’s physical attributes as well as performance, and ensure inter-mating across all complying cables and connectors”, according to the company.

Armour in the cable is stainless steel, over-wrapped with Kevlar. The company claims that it is 75% smaller and 65% lighter compared with conventional ‘aluminium interlock armor’ (AIA).

Its 12 core OS2-12 is 5.5mm in diameter and weighs 22.3kg/100m (based on 300feet at 45lbs).

Connectors in the assembles are Senko (pictured) or US Conec.

The assemblies, and MPO connectors, are available now in North America, with stock scheduled for EMEA and APAC later this year.

“At the moment our MPO assemblies are still primarily custom builds,” TiniFiber told Electronics Weekly. “We’re evaluating standard offerings.”
