The Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers group is looking for any identifying information after fiber optic cable vandalism has caused disruptions to emergency services communications and internet services in recent months.

Several incidents of vandalism in recent months have caused disruptions to emergency services communications and internet service around Kansas City, and the KC Crime Stoppers group is asking the community for help to determine who is responsible.

Fiber-optic cables have been cut over the past few months, leading to disruptions around the Swope Park, Belvidere Park and Lykins areas. Not only has it affected residents' and businesses' internet service, but it's also caused issues for first responders and emergency services and their communication systems, which are vital to keeping the community safe.

No emergency services communications have reported experiencing outages on Monday, but incidents have caused disruptions in the past few months.

A ladder was left behind at the scene of the most recent incident.

All of these vandalism incidents have occurred in industrial areas with wooded areas nearby, according to the Crime Stoppers release.

This isn't the first time this kind of crime has happened in Kansas City. In May 2023, police asked for the public's help in finding fiber-optic cable vandals. Police said at the time that the motive was likely to find copper

A $2,000 is offered to anyone who can provide identifying information of the vandals. Those with information can submit a tip anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 816-474-8477, kccrimestoppers.com or on the mobile app found at p3tips.com.
